About FC St. Pauli
FC St. Pauli (also known as Football Club St. Pauli, St. Pauli, St. Pauli FC or The Buccaneers of the League) is a professional German sports club based in Hamburg and competes in the highest division of German football; the Bundesliga. FC St. Pauli holds its home matches at the Millerntor-Stadion stadium which has the capacity of 32,000 people.
FC St. Pauli was initially founded in 1899 but officially established only in 1910. The team had medium success and played in regional leagues until achiving promotion to the Second Division in 1974. Three years later, FC St. Pauli achieved promotion to the top flight where it survived for a single season before relegation.
After being relegated to the Second Division, financial problems began and in 1979, FC St. Pauli faced bankruptcy hence was not allowed to remain in the Bundesliga. As a result, FC St. Pauli was relegated to the Oberliga Nord. It was only in 1984 when FC St. Pauli recovered from its financial crisis and achieved promotion to the Second Division.
St. Pauli FC kept competing in and out of the Bundesliga in the nest years and in the early 2000s financial problems led t FC St. Pauli to chaos. It was only in the 2005/06 season when FC St. Pauli had great success that helped the team to recover thanks to TV and sponsorship money. Thanks to the team's success it was promoted to the Second Division at the end of the 2006/07 season.
