About FC Kaiserslautern
FC Kaiserslautern (also known as 1. Fussball-Club Kaiserslautern, 1. FCK, Die roten Teufel or simply FCK) is a professional German football which competes in the top division of German football; the Bundesliga. FCK holds its home matches at the Fritz Walter Stadion which has a capacity of 48,500 spectators.
FCK was formed from the merging of two clubs in 1900. in 1963 when the Bundesliga was formed, FCK was one of the sixteen teams in the new top flight. FCK reached the German Cup finals in 1972,1976 and 1981 but won the German Cup only in 1990 and also won the Bundesliga championship in the next season for the first time.
In 1996, FCK won its second German Cup but unfortunately because of finishing in the 16th place, FCK was relegated to the 2. Bundesliga for the first time since 1963; just one week before the German Cup final.
FCK returned to the Bundesliga in 1998 and won the national championship but financial problems that were soon to come had their impact on the team performance and put the future of FCK in question. It was only in the 2003/04 season that the financial crisis was resolved but the team was unsuccessful in restoring its achievements. Eventually, FCK was relegated at the end of the 2005/06 season to the 2. Bundesliga.
At the end of the 2009/10 season after 4 years of absence from the Bundesliga, FCK managed to achieve promotion to the Bundesliga for the 2010/11 season. FC Kaiserslautern News
