About 1899 Hoffenheim
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (also known as TSG Hoffenheim, 1899 Hoffenheim or simply Hoffenheim) is a professional German football club based in Hoffenheim, Germany. TSG Hoffenheim was founded in 1899 but the modern form of the club was established in 1945 by the merging two local sports clubs. The club was named as TSG Hoffenheim but in 2007 it was decided to adopt "1899 Hoffenheim" as the official club name.
1899 Hoffenheim mostly played in local amateur leagues and steadily improved during that period and in 1996, 1899 Hoffenheim achieved the Verbandsliga Nordbaden; the third tier of the German football league system. In 2000, 1899 Hoffenheim finished the Verbandsliga in the first position and by that achieved promotion to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg and kept rising in leagues and rankings.

The 2007/08 season was the club's first season in a professional football league and despite the weak start, the club's performance was greatly improved and the team's position leaped from the 16th to the 2nd place and retained that position until the end of the season. This achievement resulted an automatic promotion to the First Division of the Bundesliga after a single season in the Second Division.
The 2008/09 season was the club's first season in the top division. 1899 Hoffenheim quickly climbed to the top of the table and was also the leading goal scorer after the first half of the season; it was a common belief that Hoffenheim could win their first championship in their first year playing top flight football. Unfortunately for the club, one of the strikers was injured during a training match and could not continue to play in the second half of the season.
Without the team's biggest offensive threat and additional cases of injuries and suspensions; 1899 Hoffenheim failed to retain its performance and after playing 12 consecutive matches without any winning, the club dropped out of the top five down to 9th place. In the following 2009/10 season; 1899 Hoffenheim has improved and returned to the top five position. 1899 Hoffenheim News
