About SC Freiburg SC Freiburg (also known as Sport-Club Freiburg, Freiburg, or Breisgau-Brasilianer) is a professional German football club which plays at the highest division of German football; the Bundesliga. SC Freiburg was founded in 1904 but went through many changes and had very modest success while playing in amateur leagues until achieving promotion to the Second Division (2. Bundesliga) for the 1978/79 season. SC Freiburg played in the Second Division for 15 years before achieving promotion to the Bundesliga in the 1993/94 season. The first season in the Bundesliga was quite hard for the team which narrowly avoided relegation back down but in the following season, SC Freiburg performed better and finished in the 3rd place. One year later, SC Freiburg reached the UEFA Cup for the first time in its history. In 1997, SC Freiburg finished in the 17th place and thus relegated but quickly returned back to the Bundesliga. After being relegated again in the 2005/06 season, SC Freiburg played in the 2. Bundesliga for two consecutive seasons before winning promotion back.
