About Paraguay
Paraguay's national football team (also known as the Los Guaraníes and La Albirroja) represents Paraguay in association football competitions vs. foreign national football teams. The national football team holds its home matches at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco stadium; a multi-purpose stadium with a capacity of 36,000 spectators in Asuncion, the capital and largest city of Paraguay.
Paraguay's national football team is not one of the top national teams in the world. In fact, the team has advanced to the second round of the FIFA World Cup tournaments in just four occasions; in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Paraguay's national football team has advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time in its history. Paraguay's national football team most significant triumphs were won in the 1953 and 1979 Copa America tournaments. When the Paraguay's national football team arrived back from the World Cup in South Africa, the team was greeted by more than 3200 fans at the airport and as an act of honor, the team was decorated by the President of Paraguay himself in person.
