About Mexico
Mexico's national football team (also known as "El Tricolor" (The Tricolor) or "El Tri" in short) represents Mexico in association football competitions vs. foreign national football teams. The national football team holds its home matches at the Aztec Stadium (also known as Estadio Azteca and El Coloso de Santa Ursula) in Mexico City. The Aztec stadium is the largest stadium in Latin America with a capacity of 105,064 spectators.
Mexico's national football team has qualified for more than thirteen World Cups, won one FIFA Confederations Cup and more than two 3rd place Copa America Medals.
In 1988, Mexico sent players older than the FIFA age limit to the qualifying round for the Olympic Games in Seoul that year. As a punishment, all Mexican national representatives of all sports were disqualified for two years from international competitions, including the 1990 FIFA World Cup. Despite the team's disappointment from the punishment it has finished the 1993 Copa America in the second place and since then became a regular participant in the Copa America tournament and never failed to reach its quarter finals stage. In 1999, Mexico also hosted and won the FIFA Confederations Cup
Mexico's national football team qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and advanced all the way to the Round of 16 before being eliminated by the Argentinean team. Mexico News
