About Wolverhampton Wanderers
Wolverhampton Wanderers (also known as Football Club, Wolvs, Wolves or Wolverhampton Wanderers FC) is a professional English football club based in the West Midlands region of England. Wolverhampton Wanderers club was founded in 1877 and one of the founder members of the English Football League and the European Cup which later became the UEFA Champions League. Wolves are known as one of the top teams and the team is currently playing in the Premier League. Since founded, Wolves was very successful and won many cups and titles.
In the 1980's, Wolves had serious financial difficulties that almost caused the club to extinct. The club's financial problems led to three consecutive relegations in 1984, 1985 and 1986. Eventually, Wolves went all the way down to the Fourth Division for the first time in its history.
In 1987, after wolves were saved by the local council, the team began its climb back from the bottom with new ownership and management. In 1989, Wolves were promoted back to the Second Division.
The Wolves kept improving until in the 2007/08 season brought more disappointment since the club failed to match the club's previous playoff finish and the Wolves went down to mid-table. Thanks to a new signing with Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Wolves got back on track for the promotion hunt and they finished just outside the final play-off spot on a single goal difference.
In the 2008/09 season, Wolves started really strong with 7 consecutive wins and reached the top of the table for the first time in years. A following run of another 7 consecutive wins ensured a tightened grip on the Wolves lead. In 2009, Wolves managed to remain at the top spot and strengthen their position at the top of the table; promotion to the Premier League was confirmed shortly afterwards and Wolves clinched their first divisional title since the 1988/89 season.
Wolves return to the Premier League placed them in their highest league position in 30 years, with a 15th place finish granting survival, this marked the first time Wolves had survived a season at the highest level since 1981.
The Wolves badge consists of wolf-head badge, the simple and stylish design made it one of the most recognisable English club badges in football. Wolverhampton Wanderers News
