About Birmingham City
Birmingham (also known as Birmingham City Football Club, Birmingham City or Birmingham FC) is a professional English football club based in Birmingham, England. Birmingham was founded in 1875 in a different name, then changed the name to Birmingham in 1943. Birmingham has managed to advance and become promoted to the Premier League from the Football League Championship at the end of the 08/09 football season.
Birmingham became the first English club side to take part in European competition when the team played its first group game in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup in 1956. Birmingham was also the first English club to reach a European final in 1960 and 1961 and even won over Inter Milan in both home and away matches. No other English football club won a match in the San-Siro until 40 years later. In 1965, after 10 years in the top flight, Birmingham was relegated the Second Division. The 70's and the 80's were not the best years for Birmingham and in 1989, Birmingham was relegated to the Third Division were for the first time in its history.
New ownership of Birmingham has then took place and the team management was replaced for several times within the following years. In 2001 after 3 years in which Birmingham experienced many play-off semifinal defeats. The team reached the League Cup final, but success was not in hand. It was only in 2007 when Birmingham achieved promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
