About Cagliari
Cagliari Calcio (also known as Cagliari, Rossoblu or Isolani) is a professional Italian football club based in Cagliari, Sardinia and plays in the highest division of Italian football; the Serie A. Cagliari holds its home matches at the Stadio Comunale Sant'Elia stadium; a football stadium with a capacity of 23,486 spectators.
Cagliari Calcio was founded in 1920 and achieved its first promotion to Serie A 44 years later in 1964. The team remained in Serie A and was quite successful until relegated in 1976. Cagliari Calcio achieved promotion back to Serie A in 1979 and remained in Serie A for 4 years until being relegated for the second time in 1983; it was only in 1990 when Cagliari Calcio achieved promotion back to Serie A.
During the first two seasons back in the top-flight, Cagliari Calcio has struggled to avoid relegation. Under new management, the team reached the European football in the 1992/93 season and in the 1993/94 season; Cagliari Calcio reached the UEFA Cup semi-finals. In the following seasons, Cagliari Calcio displayed lower performance that led to relegation in the 1996/97 season and bouncing between Serie A and Serie B until promoted back to Serie A for the 2004/05 season.
Cagliari Calcio was not very successful in Serie A; it was only in the 2008/09 season when the team has managed to achieve a finish in the 9th place. Cagliari News
