In the following seasons Udinese finished at higher placements but because of the club's involvement in a betting scandal, Udinese was penalized nine points for the 1986/87 season.
The point deduction had its impact on the team and Udinese was relegated down to Serie B. Udinese kept bouncing between Serie A and Serie B in the following seasons until the 1995/96 season from which Udinese was established in Serie A. At the end of the 2004/05 season Udinese qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club's history.
By the 2007/08 season, Udinese was at the 4th position of the table but was not successful in keeping it and fell down to the 7th place and earned its place in the UEFA Cup. Udinese News
