About US Palermo
US Palermo (also known as Unione Sportiva Città di Palermo, Rosanero, Aquile or simply Palermo) is a professional Italian football club which plays in the top flight of Italian football; Serie A. US Palermo holds its home matches at the Stadio Renzo Barbera stadium; the official team colors are black and pink.
US Palermo was founded in 1900 and didn't enjoy great success prior to World War II. Between 1947 and 1970, US Palermo bounced up and down between Serie A and Serie B for several times until remaining in Serie B from 1973 to 1984 before relegation to Serie C1.
In 1985 US Palermo was expelled by the football federation due to financial problems but 2 years later, the club was re-founded and competing in Serie C2. Through the 1990s, Palermo was bouncing again; this time it was between Serie B and Serie C1. Eventually, US Palermo was relegated down to Serie C2 in 1998.
In 2001, Palermo achieved promotion to Serie B and managed to finish in mid-table placement. After a long and hard struggle, US Palermo was promoted to Serie A at the end of the 2003/04 season. The 2004/05 season was US Palermo's first season in Serie A after 31 years of absence, the team proved excellent performance and finished in the 6th place while also achieving a place in the qualification for the 2005/06 UEFA Cup for the first time in its history.
Although the 2006/07 season began well for the team, a streak of 11 without winning led the team to slip down from the third place to the 7th place. However, US Palermo ended the season in the 5th place and qualified again to UEFA Cup for the 2007/08 season.
US Palermo ended the 2008/09 season in the 8th place and also won the Campionato Primavera national title for the first time in the club's history. US Palermo News
