About Chievo Verona
AC Chievo (also known as Associazione Calcio Chievo Verona, Chievo Verona, Mussi Volanti, Ceo or simply Chievo) is a professional Italian football team which plays in the highest division of Italian football; Serie A. AC Chievo holds its home matches at the 42,160 seater Marcantonio Bentegodi stadium.
AC Chievo was founded in 1929. 30 years later after the restructuring of the football leagues in Italy, Chievo played in the regional league placed at the bottom of the Italian football pyramid. In 1964 with a new chairman Chievo began climbing up through the entire Italian football pyramid.
AC Chievo reached Serie D in the 1974/75 season, Serie C2 in 1986 and Serie C1 in 1989. In 1997 AC Chievo won Serie C1 and achieved promotion to the Serie B. AC Chievo earned its promotion to Serie A upon finishing the 2000/01 season in the third place in Serie B.
AC Chievo had a surprising success in Serie A; the team finished the season in the 5th place and hence qualified to play in the UEFA Cup. The team finished the 2002/03 season in the 7th place and in the 9th place in the following 2003/04 season. In the 2004/05 AC Chievo had a good start and was ranked third from top but then the team has began slipping down slowly to third from bottom. Two wins and one tie in the last three matches of the season were enough to keep Chievo in Serie A, safe from relegation.
In the 2005/06 season, a new coach was hired and AC Chievo proved a great performance throughout the season until finishing in the 7th place as well as securing its place in the next UEFA Cup. However, because of a football scandal involving all the teams in the first 6 places in that season; AC Chievo was awarded a place in the next Champions League preliminary phase.
At the end of the 2006/07 season, AC Chievo was relegated to Serie B but managed to achieve promotion back within just one season. The 2008/09 season was not easy for the team but the players struggled and managed to avoid relegation. Chievo Verona News
