About Getafe CF

Getafe CF (also known as Getafe Club de Futbol, Azulones , El Geta, Los Burgers or simply Getafe) is a professional Spanish football club based in Getafe, Madrid. Getafe CF was initially founded in 1946 but liquidated as a result of financial problems at the end of the 1981/82 season; Getafe CF was reformed in 1983 thanks to joining forces with another local football club. The club's home matches are held at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez stadium.

At the end of the 1956/57 season, Getafe CF was promoted to the third division where the club remained until achieving promotion to the second division in 1976. In its first six years in the second division, Getafe CF had very little success and finished below the 10th place until 1982.

At the end of the 1981/82 season, Getafe players have not been paid because of financial problems. As a result, the club was automatically relegated and eventually liquidated. In mid-1983, Getafe was reformed based on a merger with another local football club.

Getafe in its new form began playing in the regional leagues in the 1983/84 season and proved great performance. Within 4 seasons of consecutive promotions, Getafe reached the Segunda Division B for the 1994/95 season.

Getafe played in the Segunda Division B for 2 years and struggled to avoid relegation. However, the team was relegated in 1997 to the Tercera Division. Getafe achieved promotion back to the Segunda Division B in the 1999/2000 season. In 2003, 20 years after the team was reformed in 1983. Getafe achieved promotion to the top-flight of Spanish football; the La Liga.

Getafe finished it first La Liga season at the bottom of the table but improvedf and finished at the 13th and 9th places in the following seasons. In the 2006/07 season, Getafe reached the Copa del Rey final for the first time and qualified for the following season's UEFA Cup qualification.

In the 2007/08 season, Getafe also had successful run in the Copa del Rey and reached the final for a second year running but was beaten 3–1 by Valencia.
