About RSC Anderlecht
RSC Anderlecht (also known as Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht, Anderlecht, "Purple & White", "Sporting" or RSCA) is a professional Belgian football club which competes in the Belgian First Division and is also the most successful Belgian football team in European competitions.
RSC Anderlecht was founded in 1908 and was very successful within the national leagues. Between 1975 and 1984, RSC Anderlecht also achieved considerable European success. In the 1975/76 season, RSC Anderlecht won its first European trophy; the European Cup Winners' Cup. In that same year, RSC Anderlecht also won the European Supercup.
In 1977, RSC Anderlecht achieved the final stage of the Cup Winners' Cup for the third time in a row and won it again. In 1982, the team won its first UEFA Cup. In 1984, RSC Anderlecht reached the UEFA Cup final again but this time didn't win it again this time.
Between 1990 and 1995, RSC Anderlecht earned 4 titles in five seasons but had a much harder period between 1995 and 2000. Although the team competed in the 1996/97 UEFA Cup, it was eliminated when losing in the quarter finals.
RSC Anderlecht gained direct qualification for the 2006/07 season's Champions League but was disappointingly eliminated from European contention altogether with 4 points in 4th place. In the following 2007/08 season, Anderlecht lost in the third qualifying round of the Champions League. In the 2008/09 season, Anderlecht failed to reach the third qualifying round when losing to FC BATE. In the 2009/10 season the team qualified for the Europa League and became winner of its group but was eventually knocked out in the 1/8 finals against Hamburg SV. RSC Anderlecht News
