About FC Twente
FC Twente (also known as The Tukkers or The Reds) is a professional Dutch football club based in Enschede and plays in the highest football league in the Netherlands; the Eredivisie.
FC Twente was founded in 1965 by the merging of 2 local football teams and was quite successful until the 1980s.
In the 1980s, FC Twente went downhill and was even relegated to the second division in 1982 but promoted back just one year later.
In the 2002/03 season, the club manager declared bankrupt and it was believed this will lead to the end of the club's existence. FC Twente survived this problem under new ownership and soon afterwards made it to another KNVB Cup final in 2004, 4th place finishing in the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons. In the 2007/08 season, Twente achieved the Champions League Qualifiers by defeating Ajax in the play-off finals.
In the following 2008/09 season, FC Twente finished in the 2nd place in the Eredivisie and competed in the Champions League qualifying rounds as Dutch runners-up, as well as KNVB Cup finalists.
In the 2009/10 season, FC Twente competed in the Europa League and was quite successful. Twente also managed to win its first Eredivisie title. This win enables FC Twente the chance to appear in the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League group stage. FC Twente News
