A.S. Saint Etienne (also known as ASSE, A.S. Saint-Etienne ,or Association Sportive de Saint Etienne) is a professional football team from France. A.S. Saint Etienne was founded in 1920 and have been very successful since. A.S. Roma has won many titles and honors including more than nine French First Division championships winnings.
A.S. Saint Etienne play its home games at the Stae Geoffroy Guichard stadium which is located in the city of Saint Etienne. In the nearby city of Lyon one can find their primary rivals: Olympique Lyonnais.
A.S. Saint Etienne has won its first trophy in 1955, 3 football seasons later; in 1958, A.S. Saint Etienne won the title of the French First Division for the first time. A.S. Saint Etienne fans were very proud to have their team as French Champions and many celebrations were made.
In 1962, A.S. Saint Etienne won the French Cup yet was relegated to the Second Division. In the following year, A.S. Saint Etienne has won the French Second Division and promoted back to the First Division, in 1964, A.S. Saint Etienne won the French First Division Trophy. Between 1967 and 1970, A.S. Saint Etienne has consecutively won 4 championships.
A.S. Saint Etienne remained successful through the 70's and even won the First Division Championship in 1981until a financial scandal in 1982 affected the team performance and A.S. Saint Etienne played most of the time in the bottom halves of the First and Second Divisions. Lucky for A.S. Saint Etienne, the great, unconditional support of its fans has kept the team moral high.
In 1999, A.S. Saint Etienne was promoted back to the First Division but relegated back to the Second Division in 2001. A.S. Saint Etienne struggled its way back to the First Division and in 2004, after winning the League 2 championship A.S.
