About FC Lorient
FC Lorient (also known as FC Lorient Bretagne Sud or lorient) is a professional French football club based in Lorient and competes in the highest football division of French football; Ligue 1.
FC Lorient was founded in 1926 as an amateur football club called "Football Club Lorientais" and played in national amateur leagues. FC Lorient turned professional between 1967 – 1977 and between 1988 – 1991 but it was only in 1995 when FC Lorient turned professional and remained professional since.
Prior to 1995, FC Lorient was quite successful and achieved many honours including:
Champion of the National, Runners-up Division 4, Division 3 Champions, Division d'Honneur champions and Coupe de l'Ouest winners.
In 2002, FC Lorient won the French Cup and was also finalist in the Coupe de la Ligue of the same year. FC lorient finished in the 3rd place in Ligue 2 and achieved promotion to Ligue 1 in the same year.
In the following 2006/07 season, FC Lorient finished the season in the 14th place of the first division. In both 2007/08 and 2008/09 season, FC Lorient finished in the 10th place. The team kept improving and finished the 2009/10 season in the 7th place. FC Lorient News
