About FSV Mainz

FSV Mainz (also known as Mainz, FSV Mainz 05 or Mainz 05) is a professional German football club based in Mainz and plays in the top division of the German football; the Bundesliga. FSV Mainz begun forming in 1905 and played in the lower leagues during most of its history.

In 1988, Mainz 05 was achieved promotion to the Second Division (2. Bundesliga) and relegated back by the end of its first season. However, Mainz 05 achieved promotion again after a single season, this time for a much longer stay in 1990.

Despite the expectations for relegation, FSV Mainz struggled hard to avoid relegation on one hand and achieve promotion to the top-flight on the other hand. 14 years later in 2004, FSV Mainz achieved desired promotion to the top-flight and remained there for 3 seasons.

In the end of the 2009/10 season, FSV Mainz secured its promotion back to the top flight.
