About Hamburg SV
Hamburg SV (also known as Hamburger SV, Hamburger Sport-Verein, Rothosen or simply HSV) is a professional German football club which plays in the highest division of German football, the Bundesliga. Hamburg SV holds its home matches at the 57,274 spectators HSH Nordbank Arena stadium.
Hamburg SV was founded in 1887 and besides being one of the oldest German football clubs. Hamburg SV is one of the best and most famous teams in Germany. Hamburg SV has played in top flight of German football since 1919 without ever being relegated.
In 1963 when the Bundesliga was founded, Hamburg SV was one of 16 clubs invited to join the first season. In fact, HSV is the only team that plays in the Bundesliga since its formation without ever being relegated.
During the 1970s Hamburg SV enjoyed great success. The team won its first Bundesliga championship in 1979 followed by two consecutive championships wins in 1982 and 1983. Hanburg SV also won the European Champions' Cup in 1983 and another German Cup in 1987.
In the early rounds of the German Cup in 2004 it was discovered that referee had accepted money to fix the match between Hamburg SV and SC Paderborn 07. The referee awarded two penalties to Paderborn and send off one of Hamburg's key players.
In the 2006/07 season Hamburg SV finished the Bundesliga in the 3rd place and competed in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since the 2000/01 season. Hamburg SV News
