About Schalke 04

Schalke 04 (also known as Schalke, Schalke 04, Die Konigsblauen or Die Knappen) is a professional German football club which plays at Germany's professional league; the Bundesliga. Schalke 04 was founded in 1904 by a group of high school students but won its first major European trophy 93 years later in 1997. Schalke 04 home matches are held at the Veltins-Arena stadium.

In 1963 with the formation of the German Bundesliga, Schalke 04 was selected to be one of the sixteen teams admitted to the top flight league. The team played in the Bundesliga until relegation to the Second Division for the 1981/82 season. Schalke 04 returned to the top flight in the 1983/84 season and played there since with the only exception of the 1988 season.

Schalke 04 won consecutive German Cups in 2001 and 200; achieved 2nd place finishes in the Bundesliga in 2001, 2005 and 2007.

In 2005, Schalke 04 made its second appearance in the UEFA Champions League and achieved a 3rd place. In 2006, Schalke finished the bundesliga in the 4th place, in 2007, the team finished as runners-up. In the 2007/08 season, Schalke 04 advanced through the Champions League group stage to the quarter finals for the first time in the club's history.
