About VfL Bochum

VfL Bochum (also known as Verein für Leibesübungen Bochum 1848 Fußballgemeinschaft) is a professional football club based in the Westphalia region in Germany. VfL Bochum football club was founded in 1911 although as a sports club, VfL Bochum existed since 1848.

VfL Bochum was managed to achieve promotion to the Bundesliga in 1971 and managed to stay there for 20 seasons despite being ranked at the lower half of the table. VfL Bochum managed to achieve a repeat appearance in the German Cup final in 1988 and was relegated in 1993 after ending the season in the 16th place. Following the relegation, VfL Bochum began bouncing up and down between the Bundesliga and the Second Division. VfL Bochum achieved 5th place finishes in 1997 and 2004 and thus qualified appearances in the UEFA Cup tournament.
