About Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club (AKA Tottenham FC, Spurs, Tottenham Hotspur, Lilywhites) is a British club based in North London. Tottenham Hotspur is one of 5 Greater-London based Premier League clubs (the other football clubs are Chelsea FC, Arsenal FC, West Ham United and Fulham). The club's stadium is the famous White Hart Lane. The Spurs are well known for their avid, huge body of fans that makes every home match at White Hart Lane a true football experience. Tottenham tickets are hard to get and the stadium, with a capacity of about 36,000 seats, is almost always full of season card holders.
Tottenham Hotspur FC was formed, like many other British clubs, at the end of the 19th century and was called then Hotspur FC. The club's 60 first years feature a struggle to climb to the First Division. Success came with the rule of Manager Arthur Rowe, and a First Division Championship at 1951.
After fairly successful years at the First Division (but no title) Bill Nicolson was appointed Manager. Starting at 1936 and serving in every possible capacity, Nicholson was responsible for the best years Tottenham have ever had. Under him the Spurs won 8 major titles in 16 years. Since then Tottenham Hotspur FC was almost always at the First Division (and later the Premier League), with a slight decent to the second division for one season in the 70s. Tottenham Hotspur club was the first to achieve the League and FA Cup Double, in the 1960–61 season. The Spurs became the first British club to get a major European trophy by winning the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1963.
The club won the League Cup on two occasions over the successful 70s and was the winner of the UEFA Cup in 1972. Tottenham Hotspur FC success continued over the 80s in which several additional trophies were won. In 2008 they won the League Cup once more, meaning that they have won a trophy in each of the last six decades. The only other club in Britain that can boast on such an ongoing achievement is ManU.
Among Tottenham Hotspur FC best known players are Steve Perryman, the record holder of appearances in Spurs games – 854. Jimmy Greaves scored a club record of 266 goals for Tottenham FC. Stephen Carr and Robbie Keane won the “Player of the Year” title more than once in recent years. Tottenham Hotspur News
