About Liverpool FC
Liverpool Football Club (AKA Liverpool FC or simply Liverpool) is one of Britain’s most esteemed, loved and well known clubs. Liverpool FC’s history is rich with victories and falls. The club holds a joint record of over 15 First Division/Premier League titles (shared with rival club Manchester United). In its International record Liverpool FC holds more titles than any other British club. It has a very large group of fans both in the UK and abroad. Liverpool FC’s stadium is Anfield, and in a way the stadium is what caused the club to be created in the first place. The other football club from the city Liverpool is Everton FC, which, in fact, was established about 10 years earlier than Liverpool FC, at the end of the 19th century. The stadium in Anfield was home of Everton but the club decided to leave it, because of a dispute over the rent. The owner of Anfield in those years, Mr. John Houlding, then decided to start another football club in the place, and this was the foundation of Liverpool Football Club. The club is well known for its players’ all red costume that is used since 1960 (And which replaced the white & red of earlier years).
Liverpool FC is connected to two of the worst disasters in football history which involved the death of fans. The first is known as the Heysel Stadium Disaster (in Brussels, Belgium). In 1985, One hour before the European Cup Final kick-off, a fence separating Liverpool fans from Juventus FC fans fell. The Juventus fans were trying to get away from a threatening group of Liverpool fans. The rush caused a concrete wall to collapse, causing the death of 39 and over 600 injured. 4 years later a second disaster happened in Sheffield, which was named the Hillsborough Disaster. 96 Liverpool fans were crushed to death in a rush. The impact of the two cases caused a change in the attitude of the authorities towards fans, brought a world change of safety regulation and left a shadow over the club’s name.
Among Liverpool FC best known players are Forwards Fernando Torres, Mid-fielder (and Captain) Steven Gerrard and legendary past players such as Ian Rush, Kenny Dalglish who was Striker and Manager, Kevin Keegan and Roger Hunt, to name but a few. Liverpool FC News
