Hutton feels Tottenham’s £9m price tag too rich
Rangers
Harry Redknapp
Chelsea
Sunderland
Tottenham
Alan Hutton is urging Tottenham to drop his £9 million tag in order for him to make a quick exit from White Hart Lane.
The 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham since Harry Redknapp took over the club two years ago, prompting plenty of interest but not concrete bids.
However, Hutton's hefty price tag stood in the way of his permanent switch to Sunderland following a successful loan spell at the Black Cats.
The defender told the Daily Record: "It has been tough for me. I was looking at options in the summer but nothing came off.
"I moved to Spurs for big money and if I leave, the club will be wanting that. But it's tough to get someone to pay that kind of cash when you haven't been playing.
"It's not a great situation to be in. I just need to keep my head up at the moment and keep going.
"There was a lot of speculation but I have a family now and my oldest child is at school. So I can't be going here, there and everywhere on loan and unsettling them. It's a hard decision.
"I heard the Rangers rumour but whether it's true or not I don't know.
"At the moment I'd like to stay down in England. I have a lot to prove and a lot to offer down there - so my heart is set on doing well down south.
"I have a massive amount of unfinished business. Even at Spurs, I feel that way.
"I had a really good first six months then got injured and went through a change of manager. It was tough.
"It has been a rocky road down there but while I believe I have a lot to offer I'll just keep plugging away.
"But I want something sorted, one way or another, as soon as possible.
"In this day and age you're not going to get clubs paying that sort of money for a right-back.
"But if it gets to January and I haven't played a lot then how can they ask so much? So surely it has to drop. Hopefully it will be in my favour then.
"No way is there that kind of money going around just now - unless it's Man City or Chelsea. So I have to hope the asking price will drop."

Redknapp relieved at positive diagnosis of Tottenham defender Dawson
Arsenal
Harry Redknapp
Tottenham
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp was a relieved man to discover Michael Dawson is expected to be fit within eight weeks.
Dawson was stretchered off during England's 4-0 victory over Bulgaria on Friday night after his leg collapsed beneath him in a freak accident early in the second half.
Scans showed the 26-year-old defender had only sprained left knee ligaments and a left ankle ligament and he could be back in action by the end of next month.
"First of all, it's a big blow for Michael and a great shame for him," Redknapp told the club's official website.
"But watching it live, I thought it could have been worse than it's turned out.
"It could have been his cruciate ligament and that would have been the end of the season for him but as it is, it's not such a long job and he should be back in a couple of months."
Redknapp believes Dawson's injury has underlined the value of signing veteran former Arsenal defender William Gallas on a free transfer last month.
"Jonathan Woodgate is struggling, Ledley King can't play every game and you also have to remember that Michael had an Achilles injury last season, so it was always a position we needed to do something in and that's why we did it (signed Gallas)," said Redknapp.
"Sebastien Bassong was excellent last season and we've got decent cover in there, players who can come in and do a job, but you also need experience.
"Ledley's got experience, Michael's got experience and now William's experience will be invaluable.
"He'll give us a bit of know-how and a real presence. You don't do what he's done in the game without being a top, top player and he's got all the medals to show for it."

West Ham co-owner dismisses reports Grant on borrowed time
Chelsea
Fulham
Tottenham
World Cup
West Ham co-owner David Sullivan insists boss Avram Grant is not under pressure after losing their first three games.
Some reports have claimed that Sullivan and his co-owner David Gold were considering Grant's position - despite only appointing him in the summer.
"I haven't relayed any messages to Avram at all. I just expect a gradual improvement in form. It's not all doom and gloom," he told the News of the World.
"You can't judge a team after three games. It's very premature. When you're building something it takes time and there have been changes at all levels.
"The next three games are very, very tough. Chelsea at home, Stoke who are particularly good on their own ground and Tottenham at home.
"Three tough games and then the season really starts with the Fulham game on October 2. But I hope to surprise a few people against Chelsea, Stoke or Tottenham.
"The Bolton game was a major disappointment but it's early days.
"There was a stage last season where we lost six games in a row, these things happen.
"He inherited a very imbalanced squad. Over the next year he'll turn things round. Results will gradually come. Avram is very, very confident about the future.
"He'd love to have £30m-£40m to spend but what manager wouldn't?
"I've got every confidence in the manager and every confidence in the team."
Sullivan did, though, take a swipe at some of his squad, claiming some of the 'foreign players' were not performing their best.
"We've got a few foreign players who wanted to leave but we didn't receive any offers," he continued. "I think they couldn't be bothered but now the deadline has passed they realise the only way out is to play for the club and to play well and I think they will make a contribution.
"They realise now that they are here until at least January so they will get their heads down and work for the benefit of the club. They had their heads in the air before that.
"The team that started against Man United was the same team from last season because virtually all the new signings were injured.
"You will find over the next few weeks that it won't be the team of last season - but if players are performing well they will retain their place. It's the manager's decision.
"Out of our new signings Victor Obinna didn't have international clearance, Thomas Hitzlsperger was injured, Winston Reid has a torn muscle in his buttocks, Tal Ben Haim was not fully fit and Pablo Barrera was knackered after playing two full games in the week after the World Cup.
"Now with our new players getting back and the others back playing, you will see us get better game by game."

Pulis plans to involve Gudjohnsen in Stoke’s clash with Villa

Tottenham
Stoke boss Tony Pulis plans to involve new signing Eidur Gudjohnsen either from the bench or in the starting eleven against Aston Villa.
The Iceland striker moved to the Britannia Stadium from Monaco on a one-year deal on summer transfer deadline day.
Gudjohnsen and Pulis have both previously confessed that, having missed pre-season, there is a lack of match fitness and that made the former Bolton, Chelsea, Barcelona and Tottenham player a doubt for the arrival of Villa on 13th September.
"Although Eidur has a bit of catching up to do, he is a fantastic professional," the Stoke boss told his club's official website.
"You have to be to play at the highest level and enjoy the success he has achieved.
"It will depend on the amount of work we can do with him which will determine whether he starts the Villa match or whether we put him on the bench."

Tottenham signing van der Vaart aims to hit the ground running
Jose Mourinho
Real Madrid
Tottenham
New Tottenham signing Rafael van der Vaart admits he needs to adapt to life quickly in the Premier League, if he is to make the impact expected.
The midfield star joined Tottenham on deadline day as Spurs sealed an £8million deal with Real Madrid.
"I must adapt quickly to the country, the life and the football. But I don't think that will be a problem for a Dutch footballer who has already worked in Germany and Spain," he told The People.
"During the summer I had many offers from big European clubs, but my challenge was to play for Real Madrid and work with Jose Mourinho.
"After the club confirmed I was no longer in their plans, the best solution was to leave. Tottenham were interested for some time but it wasn't feasible until the last moment.
"The offer arrived on Tuesday morning and I had little time to decide, but I hope I have luck in my new adventure.
"My wife supported the choice and we are prepared for the change from Madrid to London.
"I have played many matches against Premier League clubs and the quality is enormous. I hope Spurs are successful but, for now, all I can promise is hard work.
"Many footballers dream of playing in England and now I have this chance.
"Tottenham are one of the biggest clubs in England, and this season the fact we are playing in the Champions League means it is a great club to be at."

England coach Clemence heaps praise on Man City No1 Hart
Manchester City
Tottenham
England goalkeeper coach Ray Clemence was delighted with the performance of Joe Hart in victory over Bulgaria.
The Manchester City goalkeeper is fast emerging as the country's outstanding No1.
Clemence said: "When it was needed against Bulgaria, he pulled off three or four excellent saves which influenced the game and that is what top international keepers do.
"He has come in, looked comfortable and done what international keepers do. They may not have lots to do but, when called upon, they make the saves that matter, particularly the one where straight off the back of it we scored the second goal.
"I’m not going to put any pressure on him. Joe is a young lad who has just come into the side, this is his fifth international and in each one he has looked more comfortable, as though to say "I can cope with this, I’ll deal with it" — and he has done.
"I saw his performance for Manchester City at Tottenham a few weeks ago and it was a bit special.
"He looks difficult to beat for opposing forwards and he feels he is very difficult to beat. And he is just as keen on the training ground as on the pitch."

Tottenham boss Redknapp: Dawson absolutely devastated
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admits Michael Dawson is "devastated" over his knee injury.
It's now claimed the England defender faces THREE MONTHS on the sidelines.
Redknapp told the Sunday Mirror: “The boy is absolutely devastated. It is a massive blow for him and the club.
“I’d like to say something positive about the situation but other than we initially thought it was a lot worse and he could be out for the season, what can I say?
“At the moment we have no idea what is going to take longer to heal, his ankle or his knee. But we are certainly talking months not weeks.
“It certainly couldn’t have come at a worse time for the club with crucial games coming thick and fast.
“I’m absolutely gutted for him at a time when he has quite rightfully been given the chance to stake a claim for regular first-team football for England.
“As for Tottenham well words simply fail me. He is the heartbeat and soul of this club. His importance on the field and in the dressing room is vital to the success of this club.
“The only saving grace is he’s a real determined fighter and has the character to bounce back quickly.
“He had a few problems with his Achilles last season but seem to overcome them."

Avram Grant has three games to avoid West Ham sack
Portsmouth
Chelsea
Sunderland
Tottenham
West Ham United
Avram Grant has three games to save his job at West Ham United.
The Sunday Mirror says the Hammers are pointless and bottom of the Premier League after their opening three matches of the new campaign.
It has led to growing unrest among supporters who are fast running out of patience with Grant, who was appointed on a four year contract in June.
Co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold are also targets for the fans’ fury.
The West Ham fans’ internet message boards are laden with criticism and furious fans are bombarding radio stations.
Grant, who resigned from relegated Portsmouth at the end of last season, has become agitated by West Ham’s failure to sign key players.
As the transfer window closed last week he claimed the Hammers’ financial position put paid to several proposed deals at the last minute.
After inheriting a spendthrift club following the days of Icelandic ownership, the Gold-Sullivan hierarchy have insisted on bringing a hard-headed business approach.
But it’s likely to be the Israeli coach’s head on the block if the club fail to get points and goals in their next three fixtures.
And even though his contract runs to 2014, there is a specified pay-off within the deal.
The next visitors to Upton Park are free-scoring Premier League leaders Chelsea, followed by a tough trip to Stoke. They then face Sunderland in the Carling Cup before the visit of Tottenham on September 25.

Bolton defender Cahill ready for England start
Bolton Wanderers
Tottenham
Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill is ready to start for England against Switzerland this week.
The 24-year-old Bolton player came on in the second half of the 4-0 win over Bulgaria in place of the injured Michael Dawson.
And while he had every sympathy with the Tottenham man, Cahill was clearly elated at his baptism in international football at the highest level.
“Although I was happy and extremely proud, when you come back in the changing room and see Michael injured, it does take the shine off it a bit,” said Cahill.
For Sheffield-born Cahill, it was the fulfilment of a boyhood dream to wear the England shirt.
“From being a little lad, you strive to play for your country,” he said. “I am ready for it if I am called upon.”
If there is one man who feels more pride than Cahill, it is his father.
“He will be bouncing off the walls,” said Cahill. “He follows me everywhere and gets more nervous than me!”

Tottenham boss Redknapp: Thank God we have Gallas
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admits William Gallas' summer capture has proved critical following Michael Dawson's knee setback.
Dawson is facing three months on the sidelines.
Redknapp told the Sunday Mirror: “Thank God I went out and got William Gallas on a free transfer. That is looking an even better bit of business under the circumstances.
“He is certainly training well at the moment and should be ready to play shortly.”

Tottenham striker Defoe confirms op on backburner
Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe says groin op is on the backburner.
Defoe is so keen to carry on playing he is ready to ignore medical advice to have a hernia operation which would sideline him for a few weeks.
He said: “I’m not too sure whether I’m going to have the operation because I didn’t have a reaction on Friday night, which is nice.
“It’s been a little bit sore for weeks but I’m doing a lot of core work in the gym to strengthen the area and it’s feeling better.
“I always want to play and put myself up for selection. I’ve spoken to the physios at the club and obviously you have to try and listen to them but I told t hem they have to trust me.
“I know my body and I’ve been lucky enough not to have too many injuries.
“Lucky enough on Friday night I didn’t get any reaction at all so perhaps I can get away without having the operation.”
